Smoking Cessation Resources
You've thought about it, maybe you've tried to do it before and weren't successful, perhaps you're currently struggling to do it. What is "it?" Of course, we are referring to smoking cessation. You know it endangers not only your life but also the lives of your loved ones. But it is a very hard habit to break...and the tobacco companies don't want you to succeed in quitting. Have you ever wondered what the tobacco executives think about those addicted to their products? The following are actual quotes by tobacco executives plotting to get and keep smokers addicted to their products.
"We don't smoke the crap. We just sell it. We reserve the right to smoke for the young, the poor, the blacks and the stupid." - R.J. Reynolds executive on the question of why their chief personnel do not smoke, 1994
"Realistically, if our Company is to survive and prosper, over the long term we must get our share of the youth market ..." - Claude Teague, director of research and development for R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co
" ...If the desire to be daring is part of the motivation to start smoking, the alleged risk of smoking may actually make smoking attractive. Finally, if the 'older' establishment is preaching against smoking, the anti-establishment sentiment ... would cause the young to want to be defiant and smoke. Thus, a new brand aimed at the young group should not in any way be promoted as a "health" brand, and perhaps should carry some implied risk. In this sense, the warning label on the package may be a plus." - Claude Teague, director of research and development for R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co.
These quotes are just some that are attributable to R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. executives. Their goal was (and still is) to get as many people - especially the young - addicted to their products as possible under the guise that it was "cool" and "hip" to smoke. It didn't matter that it was killing their intended audience...they would just market products to attract new, younger smokers to take their place.
